Walking Lunge

Instructions:

1) Take a relatively long step.

2) While keeping your front foot flat and shoulders back, concentrate on bending your front knee until your back knee comes close to the ground or taps the ground gently.

3) Then stand back up and take a step with the other leg. Repeat

Helpful Hints/Cues:

1) Focus on dropping your body straight down and not forward.

2) Think about pushing mostly with the leg in front

3) The back leg will come up on the toes

Common Mistakes:

1) Taking to short of a step. If your step is too short, then you are more likely to push your knees too far forward and then come onto your toes opposed to keeping the front foot flat.

2) Going forward when dropping down. This is common because your momentum tends to take you this way. Try to separate the motions enough so you can drop straight down and keep your balance. Take your time and stay in control.

3) Taking too long of a step. This is less common. However, you should not feel like the exercise is more of a stretch than an actual working exercise.
