Rules at Become Better Sport Performance and Personal Training

  1. Show up on time. Also, please try to give 12-24 hour notice of schedule changes. This applies to semi-private clients too. We only allow a certain number of people in the gym at all times and canceling last minute or not showing up affects that. We also schedule trainers to be there depending on how many people sign-up. We understand that things come up and happen, but please try to minimize these occurrences.

  2. Keep your belongings in the white cubbies by the door and garage. This includes cell phones. Please try to limit your time on your phone while in the gym. We don’t need 20 cell phones scattered on benches and the floor. We would prefer that you are concentrating on your workout when you are here and talking with those around you.  Unless you are using your phone to post on social media about how great we are or time yourself (which the tablets do too) then you shouldn’t need your phone on you. We realize that most of you will still keep your phone with you, but again, please try to focus on your workout and not texting your friends or scrolling through Instagram. This applies to headphones too. We want to be able to correct you when necessary and not scream to get your attention.

  3. Always warm-up before starting your workout.

    • Jog up and back on the turf at least once or get on any cardio equipment for a few minutes.

    • Then do a series of any dynamic warm-up at least once down and back on the turf

    • Suggestions are on the board.

  4. Laptops and tablets are located in the white cubbies. When you are finished you must put them back in these cubbies. If there is a charging cord available, then please plug it in. Laptops/tablets left out will carry a punishment of 100 burpees just like sheets used to be.

    • Also, when you are done with your tablet please exit out of your sheet. We have had a problem with people opening the laptop/tablet and typing their name over the last person who used it.

  5. Do not permanently keep things in the white cubbies. There are not enough spaces for everyone to do this. If you have shoes you want to leave at the gym place them with our “community weightlifting shoes” located on the other side of the electrical closet.

  6. Please throw away all water bottles and other garbage you used. Anything left out will also warrant a 100 burpee penalty

  7. Please take off all weights after completing all sets of an exercise. Don’t wait until you start your next exercise or finish the other exercise of your circuit unless you are on a timed circuit

    • This applies to all equipment. Slam balls, Dumbbells, and bands should all be put back to their normal place after finishing your sets with them.

    • This goes for the sled too. Those of you leaving 200 kg on the sled are making it very hard for those trying to push an empty one.

      • Since the bottom weight is tough to get off, you may keep that one on.

      • Also, please don’t take weights from the squat racks for the sled. There’s only 1 set of each weight available for the racks and there are plenty of weights already on the turf.

  8. Please lightly spray all equipment after use. Especially benches and mats that you sweat on. This also goes for the equipment in the recovery room.

    • Also make sure you put things back where you found them in the recovery room and not just laying around.

IMPORTANT GYM REMINDERS

I would like to remind everyone to please try to show up on time for your appointments. This applies to semi-private clients too and where we have had the most issue lately. We schedule other clients and our staff according to how many people that should be there at that time. Unless you are the first client of the day, you should be aiming to get in 5-15 minutes early so you can get warmed up and started as close to your scheduled time as possible. If you schedule for 5:00 pm, show up at 5:15, then warm-up for 15 minutes you’re not actually starting your workout until 5:30. If we have more clients who then have scheduled for 5:30/6:00 pm we can easily run out of equipment or not be able to offer the same type of help that we would like to for everyone because our eyes will be scattered with too many people. This applies to EVERYONE, including those who we are friends with and who have been training with us for a long time.

Second topic to piggy back off of the scheduling. When it gets really busy and you need a spot on something, don’t be afraid to ask another client. Coaches are obviously here to help correct, answer questions and spot, but if it’s busy let the coaches spend their time demonstrating, correcting, and just in general - coach. This especially applies on weekends where we can only staff one coach most of the time and sometimes they have to be with a 1-1 client. Anyone can spot someone else in almost all cases. We literally have 13 year old kids who can, and have, spotted each other. If you are unsure how to spot, no problem, ask a coach and we can give you a quick lesson. If you have been around a long time and have spotted many times before, then please don’t hesitate to step-up and help those that look like they need it.

Lastly, we have had a lot of new clients recently. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and welcome them to the gym. Our greatest strength here is the great supportive and encouraging environment that you all help create.
