Head Baseball Trainer:

Joey Buchanich

M.S. Exercise Science

NSCA Certified - CSCS

Former Collegiate Baseball Player

I personally played baseball through college and have been through internships/seminars focusing on shoulder health and hip/lower body rotational power.  I have my Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from Gannon University with a focus on Strength & Conditioning.  I know from experience what playing and training for baseball is all about. I have personally gone through all the training that I make my athletes go through, so I know first hand what the performance benefits can be along with proper prehab and rehab techniques of the most common injuries associated with playing. I work with many other baseball athletes and hope to add more!

Baseball Training Program

All of the training we do will be focused on strength, power and injury prevention. We also take extreme care in proper execution of each movement. This will not only keep each athlete safe, but will also ensure progress is continually made. Modifications will be made when necessary for each individual based on their abilities and any injuries they currently have. Sets, Reps, and Weights will also be very individual.

Linear and Rotational Speed & Power

These baseball specific movements can help improve bat speed while hitting or hip drive for a pitcher when pushing off the rubber.

Example Exercises - Medicine Ball Throws, Speed Band Rotations, Landmine Explostion, etc...

Upper/Lower Body Strength

General Strength training for the whole body will help to combat any weakness the athlete may have.  The combination of training will translate to fielders throwing harder and faster.

Lower Body Exercise Examples - Squats, Deadlifts, Lunges, Step-Ups, etc…

Upper Body Examples - Presses, Chin-ups/Pull-ups, Rows, etc...

Injury Prevention & Shoulder Health

Common injury sites for Baseball Players include the Core/Abdomen, Hamstrings, Shoulder and Elbow. Strengthening these structures are critical to the longevity of every athlete.  Using proper evidence based practice along with proper exercise/strength progression will help to keep the athlete on the field.

Exercise Examples - External Rotations, Scapular Slides on the wall/ground, mini band movements, etc...

Conditioning for Pitchers

We will use many conditioning methods that help pitchers stamina and strength for every time they take the mound.

Exercise Examples - Sled Pushes, Rowers, Bikes, Tire flips, Battle Ropes, etc...

“All of the trainers have been excellent in helping both of my children with their workouts. They make it where the kids choose to go and don’t feel forced to go. The environment is wonderful and the kids help each other keep on track! If you are looking for a great personal experience Become Better is the place to go!”
